Augmented Reality, a direct or indirect live view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are “augmented” by computer-generated perceptual information, so it’s seeing what we usually see around us accompanied by computer generated images.
Given the various benefits that these Augmented Reality glasses provide, it’s no wonder this technology has moved beyond that of a discussion point into one of an investment opportunity that has the potential to drive real efficiency benefits in the supply chain, as well as being environmentally friendly, due to it being paperless.
One of the world’s largest distribution specialists is currently trialling the technology within its operations and identified some immediate benefits, including increased pick productivity and accuracy, more efficient planning and eradicating potential human error along the way.
So what started as an idea for consumers with the google glasses, has now found use in the distribution industry as a visual guide to people that work within it.
